This role manages the preparation, maintenance, and reporting of financial data, including general ledger activities, reconciliations, and month-end close processes. The Accounting Manager ensures compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies while supporting leadership with financial insights and analysis. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and financial reporting
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements
- Supervise and direct accounting staff in maintaining ledgers, journals, and financial records
- Review reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements for accuracy and compliance
- Manage fixed assets, capital projects, and work order accounting
- Ensure accurate billing, disbursements, and reporting related to operational activities
- Prepare and support audit processes, including year-end financial documentation
- Oversee tax filings and regulatory reporting at local, state, and federal levels
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to support operational decision-making
- Maintain relationships with auditors, financial institutions, and external stakeholders
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Lead process improvements and enforce strong internal controls
- Participate in meetings, training, and community or industry events as needed
- Manage and develop accounting staff, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and ensuring accuracy of outputs
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum of five years of supervisory accounting experience, preferably in a regulated or utility environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
- CPA designation preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently
