Therapist
Summary:
The Therapist provides comprehensive mental health services to Daybreak clients, including diagnostic assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, and crisis intervention. This role supports youth and young adults in achieving mental wellness and stability through evidence-based clinical practices, collaborative treatment planning, and timely coordination of care.

Therapist Duties and Responsibilities - Daybreak
The clinician is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based behavioral health services to youth and young adults served by Daybreak. Responsibilities include:
Assessment and Treatment Planning
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostic assessments for all incoming Daybreak clients.
- For clients who identify mental health treatment goals, collaborate with the client and assigned case manager to ensure that goals are reflected in the client's individualized service plan (ISP).
- As a member of the Clinical On-Call team, provide crisis intervention assessments and develop safety plans, including coordination with Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) when hospitalization screenings are necessary.
Counseling and Therapy
- Provide individual and group counseling services utilizing evidence-based practices to support clients in achieving their treatment goals.
- Tailor interventions to address the needs of special populations served by Daybreak, including but not limited to unhoused youth, LGBTQ+ youth and other special populations.
Resource Coordination and Referral
- Offer referrals to appropriate community-based mental health services that exceed Daybreak's scope of care.
- Provide resources and referrals related to substance use disorders.
- Connect clients with specialized community resources that align with their identities or needs (e.g., LGBTQ+ services, housing supports).
Discharge and Continuity of Care
- Collaborate with clients to develop discharge plans that ensure continuity of mental health care and access to supportive services upon program completion or exit.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and complete clinical records in accordance with agency policies, funder requirements, accrediting bodies, and ethical standards.
- Submit documentation of clinical services within 72 working hours of service delivery, as per agency protocol, to support timely billing and client recordkeeping.
Productivity and Professional Development
- Maintain licensure (LSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC) by completing all continuing education requirements (CEUs) as defined by the applicable licensing board.
Therapist Essential Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree state licensure in Social Work (LSW) or Counseling (LPC) or Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling and state licensure, or Clinical Social Work/Counseling with a LISW/LPCC required.
- At least 2 years' experience working with homeless and/or at risk youth (16-24).

It is the policy of Daybreak to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all license requirements and that all employees are fit for duty. Once a conditional offer of employment has been given, Daybreak requires that all prospective employees sign a background check release form and pass pre-employment testing before a start date may be given.
Background Check
Daybreak is required by State of Ohio law to perform a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting, of eligible applicants. In addition to the fingerprints, Daybreak requires the following additional background checks.
- Federal Exclusion databases including:
- National Sex Offender Registry
- Office Inspector General (OIG)
- Nurse Aide Registry
- SAM
- of Developmental Disabilities (DODD)
- Motor Vehicle Report
Pre-employment Testing
The following pre-employment tests will be conducted at Daybreak's expense. Tests include:
- A tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray (by a physician of Daybreak's choosing)
- A urine drug screening (by a testing facility of Daybreak's choosing)
Should the pre-employment reviews indicate that the prospective employee does not meet the employment requirements, Daybreak has the option of either not hiring the person or postponing employment until the condition prohibiting employment has been removed.
If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately.
Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.
