Overview:
Toledo Fire and Rescue is seeking applicants for the position of Firefighter. Candidates must complete the online application, the entry-level exam, and the Firefighter Mile (FFM) within the specified exam period. Proof of residency may qualify Ohio residents and specific Michigan county residents for vouchers to cover exam and FFM costs. Vouchers are limited and subject to verification.

Hourly: $24.326
Annual: $50,598.08

Job Requirements:

Age: 18-40 at the final closing date for the Civil Service exam.
Citizenship: Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
License: Valid Ohio driver's license.
Vision: No color vision deficiency, minimum binocular vision 20/20 (corrected).
Certification: Must meet apprenticeship standards and complete Firefighter Training Academy during probation. Paramedic certification is required and maintained throughout employment.
Hiring Process:

Background Investigation: Conducted by the Toledo Police Department. Appeals are allowed for negative findings.
Oral Interview: Scheduled for candidates who pass the background process.
Medical Examination: Includes an appeals process for failed candidates.
Physical Ability Test: Determines fitness for job-related tasks.
Fire Training Academy: Probationary training standards must be met.
Veterans' Preference:
Eligible veterans receive:

5 points for passing scores.
10 points for disabled veterans.
Proof of honorable service is required (DD-214).

EMT/Paramedic Preference:
Points are awarded for active certifications:

EMT-B: 3 points
EMT-A: 4 points
EMT-P (Paramedic): 5 points
Important Note:
Completion of the FFM is mandatory during the exam period. Candidates failing to meet deadlines or failing the FFM after two attempts will not advance in the hiring process.
