Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Landscape Construction Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial landscape construction projects. The Estimator will analyze plans and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, and collaborate closely with the Project Managers, Branch Manager, and Lead Estimator to evaluate bids and ensure profitable project execution.
Key Responsibilities- Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents thoroughly.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for: Tree, shrub, and perennial planting; Soils; Hardscapes; Unit pavers; Retaining walls; Irrigation systems; Site furnishings.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Branch Manager, and Lead Estimator to review, level, and evaluate bids prior to submission.
- Manage the bid schedule, including tracking due dates and prioritizing workload to meet submission deadlines.
- Communicate with potential General Contractors regarding bid requirements, scope clarifications, addenda, and submission details.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Identify project risks, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare bid proposals for submission.
- Assist in developing and maintaining pricing databases and production rates.
- Assist in tracking awarded projects versus estimated performance to improve future accuracy.
- Participate in project handoff meetings with operations teams upon award.
- 3+ years of experience in landscape construction estimating (commercial preferred).
- Strong understanding of planting installation, soil preparation, hardscape construction, irrigation systems, and retaining wall systems.
- Ability to read and interpret landscape, civil, and architectural drawings.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Aspire, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Willingness to receive training and development in identified shortfall areas.
- Degree in Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with public bid and private negotiated work.
- Knowledge of local suppliers and subcontractors.
- Experience with takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift).
