Part-time Staff: Engineering Lab Technician
RESPONSIBILITIES
- First point of contact in the E-building for vendors, deliveries, special projects and service needs for classrooms, labs and equipment.
- Calibrate, repair, maintain and demonstrate electronic laboratory test equipment, welding, machining equipment, metrology, civil, mechanical, and woodworking equipment.
- Develop and implement scheduled maintenance and testing program.
- Maintain inventory records of laboratory equipment, materials and supplies in accordance with college requirements and accepted industrial standards.
- Ship, receive and inspect and maintain records of equipment sent to service locations.
- Prepare equipment, materials and experiments for lab classes.
- Work with faculty to design, build, test, install and adapt special equipment and devices for instructional requirements.
- Provide the Dean and faculty with technical support for ABET accreditation visits.
- Write specifications and order materials and supplies.
- Assist students with set up of projects as directed by faculty.
- Coordinate with faculty the acquisition, filing, and maintenance of reference materials; maintain operating manuals, parts catalogs, and specifications for equipment and devices.
- Perform tasks in support of the daily operation of the Manufacturing Learning Center: train, schedule and oversee lab assistants and workers; prepare equipment, operating and lab experiment manuals and provide technical assistance for jobs.
- Troubleshoot, load, set up, and maintain engineering computer labs with engineering application software and hardware.
- Maintain engineering network and related equipment.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education/Training and Experience Required/Preferred
- Associate’s degree required in one or more of the engineering technologies: civil, electronic, mechanical and/or manufacturing.
- Minimum three years of work experience in the operation and repair of electronic test equipment, welding and machining equipment, and basic civil and mechanical engineering equipment including the installation and maintenance of engineering computer and network hardware and software.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering technology or engineering is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic tools, methods and supplies needed to maintain and test equipment and set up experiments
- Skills in operating, calibrating, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and industrial equipment and tools; reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams and specifications, gas and arc welding and brazing.
- Skills in communicating and working effectively with faculty and students.
- Ability to learn and properly apply departmental policies and procedures, diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment and circuit problems; work independently, maintain effective interpersonal working relationships
C. Physical Activity Level
- Heavy - Mostly standing and lifting over 50 lbs. frequently.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This is a full-time or partial year (hours will vary depending on department needs) continuing staff position.
- The hourly salary is $20.94 at grade 8A of the staff salary schedule.
