The Urban League of Greater Cleveland is a mid-sized nonprofit organization with an annual budget of
approximately $5 million, dedicated to programs and services for the economic empowerment of residents in the

Although this position is specific to finance, we are looking for an individual who shares the same drive and
passion as we do for the minority community in the greater Cleveland area. It is especially important that the person
who takes on this role is comfortable in race relations and can comfortably participate and communicate in topics
regarding systematic racism, equity, and equality without hesitation.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Finance serves as a key member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for overseeing all
financial functions of the organization, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, grants management, financial
reporting, and compliance. This individual ensures the organization’s fiscal integrity, sustainability, and
accountability, providing strategic financial guidance that supports mission-driven decision-making and long-term
stability.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a collaborative leader, and a hands-on financial manager with a deep
understanding of nonprofit financial operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Management & Strategy
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes aligned with organizational strategy.
- Provide accurate, timely financial reports to the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board of
Directors.
- Analyze financial trends and develop strategies to ensure organizational sustainability and growth.
- Partner with senior leadership to support financial aspects of strategic initiatives and business planning.
- Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB
958).
- Manage month-end and year-end closings and prepare comprehensive financial statements.
- Lead the annual audit process, serving as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
- Budgeting & Grants Management
- Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Oversee tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure compliance with donor intent and reporting
requirements.
- Collaborate with program staff to create and monitor program and grant budgets.
- Prepare detailed financial reports for funders and government agencies as required.
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff, fostering professional development and accountability.
- Serve as a key advisor to the Executive Director and Board on financial strategy and risk management.
- Support and present to the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board.
- Build strong relationships with internal departments to ensure financial alignment across the organization.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Oversee insurance coverage, contracts, and other risk management areas.
- Ensure timely completion of required filings, including 990s, charitable registrations, and grant compliance
reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO and Senior Management
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; CPA or
MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in financial management, including at least 3 years in a
nonprofit organization.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and grants management.
- Experience managing financial operations and audits for an organization with an annual budget of
approximately $5 million.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to sit and type at a computer
terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This position offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $125,000 annually, commensurate with experience
