Full-time Supervisory/Professional: Associate Director of Development
Founded in 1967, Lakeland Community College now serves more than 6,500 students annually and provides a continuum of education, from offering college credit courses for high school students to preparing students for the workforce upon completion of certificates, associate degrees or transfer to a four-year institution. Additionally, the college is home to over a dozen Holden Partnership Programs where Lakeland students and staff can continue on with bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs.
The Associate Director for Development provides daily oversight and coordination for the operations of The Lakeland Foundation to include internal systems and processes; plan and coordinate the development activities for the Foundation; assist the Executive Director with cultivation and maintenance of donor relationships, assist with the implementation of the strategic plan, oversee Foundation events; supervise staff; provide support to board committees; maintain relationships with donors as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-inclusive)
- Identify and plan for the operational needs of the Foundation; research relevant sources of best practices to recommend effective strategies and applications which maximize resources and create efficiencies.
- Create, implement and develop internal systems and processes for the Lakeland Foundation. Create and develop written procedures to document approved systems and processes. Develop and implement policies and processes for gift acknowledgement, processing, accounting and recognition, etc. Works closely with the Director of Treasury, Foundation and Gifts to track events and budgets.
- Oversee all activities related to Foundation events, including the coordination and support of each event committee, volunteers and staff.
- Oversee the enhanced use of Raiser’s Edge and other information systems for maximization of features and functions including data entry, data retrieval, storage and reports. Manage the database and generate and analyze financial and technical reports related to fundraising and foundations. Coordinate necessary training for all appropriate Foundation staff. Oversees Development Service Specialist.
- Ensure compliance within the operations relative to college policies, foundation policies and government policies and regulations for 501(c)3 organizations.
- Coordinate and supervise productive work activities of support staff and student workers; ensure appropriate level of staff support and coordination for board committees; ensure that office personnel provide professional, collaborative, customer-oriented responses to inquiries and requests.
- Maintain positive relationships with current donors and provide stewardship to the donor cultivation process. Create and disseminate correspondence and communications for the Foundation and Development offices.
- Assist the Executive Director of the Foundation in implementation of strategic plan for development, and campaigns and programs. Holds a small major gifts portfolio 25-20 people.
- Assist the Executive Director in providing effective training, support and leadership to the Foundation Board and volunteers to meet financial goals. Provide assistance in managing the overall relationships with relevant boards and organizations in the community.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education/Training and Experience Required/Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three to five years of successful experience in development and fundraising operations.
- Proficiency using Windows-based computer products/programs (Windows, Power Point, Excel) required.
- Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
- Certification in professional fundraising or professional philanthropy preferred.
B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of development operations and procedures and federal and state regulations governing fund-raising and planned giving
- Ability to manage and facilitate operations; manage multiple priority projects at once with ease and efficiency and produce quality results within required timeframes. Must be proactive, anticipate needs, be resourceful and work effectively with colleagues, the campus community, and external constituents at all levels.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with donors, prospects, trustees, as well as college staff, faculty and administration. Ability to work effectively in team environment as well as to work independently.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills to prepare briefings, edit and prepare final documents and correspondence.
- Ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive material
- Skills in generation and analysis of technical and financial information and reports
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to create, plan and implement a wide variety of fundraising and relationship-building events
- Abilities to coordinate work activities of support staff and to provide leadership and development for support staff.
C. Physical Activity Level
- May need to move around intermittently during the day, including sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and walking.
- May need to remain still for extended periods, including sitting and standing.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This is a year-round exempt position assigned to pay grade 5 of the Administrative and Supervisory/Professional Salary Schedule . The anticipated hiring range is $65,056 - $80,000/year.
