Job Posting: Registered Nurse – Correctional Healthcare

Location: Caldwell, OH 43724
Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts (2:00 PM – 2:00 AM)
Position Type: Long-term assignment, contract
Pay: $45–$50/hour

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide safe, ethical, and clinically sound nursing care in a structured correctional healthcare environment. This role is ideal for nurses who are confident, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality care while maintaining professional boundaries.

Nurses will work independently and as part of a healthcare team to assess, monitor, and provide care for patients, including incarcerated individuals, in a secure setting.

Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

• Provide professional nursing care in student health units or correctional facilities.
• Observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients.
• Perform nursing rounds, take and record vital signs, and administer prescribed medications and treatments.
• Monitor restrained patients on a timely basis and respond to emergencies immediately.
• Perform specialized procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, dialysis, blood transfusions, tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, phlebotomy, and CPR.
• Organize and oversee 'Code Blue' teams and direct healthcare staff during emergencies.
• Assist physicians with diagnostic evaluations and administer care as directed.

Administrative & Clerical Duties:

• Maintain accurate patient records and reports, including incident reports and medication logs.
• Manage inventory of controlled drugs, medical supplies, and equipment.
• Schedule and coordinate outpatient appointments and medical examinations.
• Serve as a mentor or trainer for new staff when needed.
• Participate in staff development and educational programs.

Qualifications

Required:

• Active RN license in good standing in Ohio.
• Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills.
• Ability to work independently in a secure environment.
• Ability to respond promptly to emergencies.

Preferred:

• Experience in correctional, emergency, or acute care settings.

Security & Compliance Requirements

• Must clear metal detectors; no personal items, cans, tobacco, vapes, or non-transparent containers allowed.
• Food and drinks must be in clear containers; 1-gallon water limit.
• US Passport or Naturalization card if born outside the US.
• Complete ODRC packet (including full SSN if not Ohio resident for 5+ years).
• TB test, HireRight drug screen, and Global ID required within 48 hours of accepting the position.
• BLS/CPR certification required.

Work Environment & Characteristics

• Knowledge of professional nursing procedures and state/federal regulations.
• Skill in operation of medical equipment (stethoscope, otoscope, BP cuff, EKG).
• Ability to write accurate reports, gather and organize data, and demonstrate physical fitness.
• Work involves abstract and concrete problem-solving in a secure, high-stakes environment.
