Safety manager
PCI Services (Process Construction) is currently seeking to hire a full-time Safety Manager. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing effective safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment across all mechanical contracting projects. The role focuses specifically on the unique hazards associated with mechanical work, such as HVAC installation, process piping, welding, confined space entry, and working with pressurized systems. The Safety Manager serves as a key liaison between field operations and leadership, driving continuous improvement in safety culture and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Program Development & Implementation
- Develop and maintain the company’s safety manual, jobsite-specific safety plans (JSSPs), and other compliance-related documentation.
- Implement safety procedures in line with OSHA standards, NFPA, ANSI, ASME, and industry-specific guidelines related to mechanical systems.
- Customize safety programs to address the specific needs of mechanical construction, such as lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work permits, trenching/shoring, confined space entry, and working with energized systems.
2. Jobsite Safety Oversight
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of job sites, equipment, tools, and practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.
- Monitor use of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, and safe work practices on all active sites.
- Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Pre-Task Safety Planning (PTSP) with field teams.
3. Training & Education
- Lead safety orientation sessions for new hires, subcontractors, and temporary workers.
- Conduct ongoing training on topics such as fall protection, hazard communication, respiratory protection, and safe welding practices.
- Coordinate certification programs such as OSHA 10/30-Hour Construction, First Aid/CPR, and forklift/aerial lift operation.
4. Incident Management & Reporting
- Investigate all near-misses, incidents, and injuries in a timely and thorough manner.
- Prepare detailed incident reports, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans.
- Communicate findings and lessons learned to all stakeholders to prevent recurrence.
5. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA 1926 (Construction) and OSHA 1910 (General Industry) where applicable.
- Prepare for and manage interactions with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, local fire departments, insurance inspectors).
- Maintain and submit required documentation, including OSHA 300 logs, safety data sheets (SDS), inspection reports, and training records.
6. Risk Management & Safety Culture
- Participate in pre-construction planning to identify potential hazards and recommend engineering or administrative controls.
- Support project teams in selecting appropriate methods, materials, and equipment from a safety perspective.
- Foster a proactive safety culture by engaging employees at all levels and promoting a “Stop Work Authority” mindset.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience considered.
- Certifications (preferred or required):
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar
- First Aid/CPR/AED
- Confined Space Competent Person
- Fall Protection Competent Person
- Experience:
- 5+ years of safety experience in the construction industry, with at least 2–3 years in mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, piping, or industrial mechanical work).
- Experience with subcontractor management and multi-employer worksites.
- Knowledge of equipment used in mechanical construction and maintenance: lifts, cranes, rigging, pressurized piping systems, boilers, etc.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to influence and coach field teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
- Ability to travel between multiple job sites and respond to safety concerns promptly.
- Demonstrated leadership in implementing and improving safety programs.
Working Conditions:
- Job involves a mix of office work, site visits, and field observation.
- Must be able to walk job sites, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required during emergencies or major project milestones.

Vice President of Operations
Supervises:
May supervise Safety Coordinators or Field Safety Representatives, depending on the size of the project.
