Hospice Chaplains carry the profound honor of guiding patients and families through the sacred journey of end-of-life care. As a vital part of our team, chaplains provide a steady, compassionate presence—whether through a brief visit or extended time at the bedside—ensuring patients feel spiritually supported and at peace.
By listening deeply, honoring silence, and holding space for essential questions, chaplains help patients reflect on the meaning of their lives and find comfort in their final days. Working within our interdisciplinary team, they address spiritual concerns alongside physical and emotional needs.
Our commitment extends beyond the patient, providing families with ongoing spiritual support for up to a year after their loss.

Hospice Chaplain Requirements:
- Ecclesiastical endorsement by faith group/denomination
- Minimum of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from Accredited ACPE Center Required
- Master of Divinity degree or equivalency preferred
- Nonjudgmental and inclusive presence
- Spiritual Care experience working with terminal individuals, family members, and clinicians
- Knowledge and commitment to hospice philosophy of care
- Awareness of end of life practices associated with different faith traditions
- Hospice care experience preferred (one-year minimum)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a hospice care team
- Ability to use electronic medical resources for care plans, interventions, and documentation
- Meet federal and state requirements regarding criminal/abuse background checks
- Proof of valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation
Hospice Chaplain Responsibilities:
- Provide or coordinate spiritual care support to patients, family members, and caregivers
- Conduct spiritual assessments of patients and family members in a timely manner as required
- Assist with bereavement follow-up care as appropriate in collaboration with bereavement coordinator
- Participate as a member of the hospice team in regularly scheduled care conferences, hospice admissions, and Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings
- Provide emotional/spiritual support to hospice team members as needed
- Develop and maintain relationships with local spiritual leaders
- Participate in quality improvement programs and services
- Participate in weekend on-call rotation as designated
Hospice Chaplain Schedule & Benefits:
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with an on-call rotation that will include weekends and evenings
