Ice Cream Shop Manager (Seasonal)
Penguin Palace is seeking a dependable, hands-on Ice Cream Shop Store Manager to lead day-to-day operations of our busy seasonal ice cream stand. This role is for someone who takes ownership of the store, leads from the front, and is comfortable holding employees accountable while maintaining a positive and respectful work environment.
This is a seasonal role operating March through October, with the flexibility to set your own work schedule based on store needs and the expectation to return each season. The Store Manager is responsible for staffing, scheduling, training, food safety compliance, inventory management, cash controls, and maintaining an inspection-ready store at all times. This role requires both on-site leadership and off-site managerial responsibilities to ensure smooth operations. Compensation: $20 per hour plus a $200 weekly management stipend for off-site duties such as scheduling, inventory-related shopping, hiring, onboarding, and administrative responsibilities. Responsibilities include:- Oversee daily store operations while working alongside employees as a hands-on leader.
- Create, manage, and publish weekly staff schedules.
- Interview, hire, onboard, train, and supervise employees.
- Enforce company policies and address discipline or termination when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations and Lucas County Health Department requirements.
- Maintain proper cleaning and maintenance of ice cream machines, equipment, and the overall store.
- Monitor inventory levels, place orders, receive deliveries, and ensure proper storage.
- Count cash drawers, prepare bank deposits, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Address customer concerns professionally and resolve issues promptly.
- Step in to cover shifts as needed to ensure proper staffing.
- Safeguard store keys, alarm codes, and company property.
- Communicate regularly with the owner regarding operations, staffing, and decision-making.
Requirements:
- Previous management or supervisory experience, preferably in food service.
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to enforce policies and maintain standards consistently.
- Reliable transportation and availability during peak seasonal hours.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must maintain or obtain an Ohio Manager Certification (Level 2) in Food Protection upon hiring.
