Peer Support Specialist

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary:
The Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist at Robin Recovery plays a key role in supporting clients through their recovery journey. This position focuses on providing compassionate, peer-based support services, including individual and group sessions, as well as transportation for clients between recovery housing, the treatment center, and community meetings. The Peer Support Specialist uses their own lived experience to connect with clients, offering hope and guidance while promoting a sense of belonging and community. Duties, Responsibilities, & Essential Job Functions:
- Provide individual and group peer support services, sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivate clients.
- Transport clients safely to and from recovery housing, the treatment center, and external recovery meetings, ensuring they have access to all necessary services and support.
- Assist clients in navigating the recovery process, offering guidance, emotional support, and resources based on their own lived experience.
- Collaborate closely with the clinical team to integrate peer support into individualized treatment plans, providing insights from a lived experience perspective.
- Monitor client progress, noting changes in behavior or mood, and communicate any concerns to the clinical team promptly.
- Facilitate recovery-related activities, meetings, and workshops, promoting a positive, supportive environment for clients.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and the broader recovery community, connecting clients with additional resources such as 12-step meetings, support groups, or sober events.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records and documentation in compliance with organizational policies and confidentiality standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a substance use disorder treatment or peer support setting.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to provide transportation services.
- Strong understanding of substance use disorder recovery principles, including harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency.
- Empathy & Lived Experience: Ability to connect with clients through shared experiences and provide hope and encouragement from a personal recovery perspective.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening and the ability to engage clients in meaningful dialogue.
- Cultural Competency: Sensitivity and adaptability to the diverse cultural needs and backgrounds of clients.
- Crisis Intervention: Ability to respond calmly and effectively to client crises, utilizing de-escalation techniques and seeking appropriate support when needed.
- Organizational Skills: Strong time management and ability to coordinate transportation schedules and client appointments effectively.
- Team Collaboration: Works effectively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing insights from a peer perspective to enhance client care.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to drive and provide transportation services regularly.
- Capacity to walk and climb stairs, especially in emergency situations.
