Job Title : Staff Accountant.
Reports To : Accounting Manager.

Department : Accounting/Finance.
FLSA Status : Exempt.

Basic Purpose of Position:

The Staff Accountant’s primary responsibility is to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the business’s financial position through assisting in the preparation of financial statement reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the preparation and processing of periodic journal entries and account reconciliations (including bank reconciliation), the updating and documentation of accounting oriented standard operating procedures (SOP) and assisting with completion of the annual year-end external audit.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Completion of required journal entries on a periodic basis, ensuring proper documentation and the adherence to GAAP.
  • Completion of period-end substantive balance sheet account reconciliation (including bank reconciliation) with an emphasis on identifying & correcting reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Documentation of standard operating procedures ensuring appropriate controls and efficiencies are in place and being adhered to by the department and others within the company.
  • Perform period-end closing functions ensuring the timely release of accurate periodic financial statements, analysis and reconciliation.
  • The review of unit level P&L reports ensuring that the period/quarter and year-end statements are accurate and in accordance with GAAP.
  • Research and prepare documentation on complex accounting transactions ensuring their accuracy and accounting regulation compliance.
  • Assist in the completion of our annual audits with our external auditors.
  • Assist with our annual operations budgeting process.
  • Have a customer service mindset when it comes to communicating with other departments, operations personnel and external partners. Being able to communicate in a concise, professional and timely manner.

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Maintain a basic knowledge of computer systems and all software necessary for the position.
  • Maintain an understanding of City Barbeque policies and procedures.
  • Understanding and following of a philosophy congruent with City Barbeque’s culture.
  • Other projects, tasks, duties, etc. based on department/business initiatives.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university (Accounting or Finance degree required).
  • 1-3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in a restaurant, retail or other multi-unit environment.
  • Strong skill level in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Experience in ERP systems a plus.
  • Experience in reconciliation software such as Reconnet a plus.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and perform multiple concurrent and diversified tasks.
  • Ability to use good judgment to prioritize tasks as the need arises.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write business reports and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, operations personnel, customers and regulators.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products & ERP financial reporting systems
