Position Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled psychiatrist to provide care in our residential treatment programs and our professional outpatient practice. Referrers and patients from several countries, states, and the Greater Cincinnati area seek the expertise of our national referral center for our comprehensive assessments. You will have the opportunity to collaborate effectively and closely with neuropsychologists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals in a team-based environment that will be challenging and invigorating at the same time.

Psychiatrists receive faculty appointments through the University of Cincinnati Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, one of the nations top academic psychiatry departments. The final rank and title of the faculty appointment will be commensurate with experience and professional accomplishments of the selected applicant. There is the opportunity to teach psychiatry residents and medical students. Position Summary

Diagnoses and treats patients with psychiatric disorders through continuum of care by working with a team of mental health professionals to provide treatment through residential and outpatient. The psychiatrist will involve the patient, referrer, treatment team, consultants, and the patient family/support system in designing the treatment plan when appropriate. Supports LCOHs research activities and integrates research into clinical practice whenever possible. Utilizes evidence-based treatment modalities and clinical expertise to diagnose and treat patients.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts a thorough, comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, and reviews and assesses information regarding patients medical and treatment history, obtained from patient, family, other treatment providers, and staff.
  • Examines patient to assess general medical condition at admission and on an ongoing basis
  • Orders laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained. Prescribes medication and other forms of treatment according to best practices and latest evidence base.
  • Determines nature and extent of mental illness and formulates treatment plan.
  • Completes required documentation in the electronic medical record within the timeframes based on current policy requirements.
  • Works effectively with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians to treat and direct treatment of patient, utilizing evidenced based psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Involves the patient, referrers, and family in treatment planning when appropriate.
  • If not principally engaged in research supports the research mission of the Center and appropriately refers patients for studies and projects.
  • Observes patient safety and security procedures; determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; reports potentially unsafe conditions. Effectively handles difficult patient situations, responds promptly to patient needs in an appropriate manner, and responds to requests for service and assistance.
  • Focuses on solving conflict; maintains confidentiality; listens to others effectively; remains open to others ideas and innovation.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions. Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; supports and explains reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision making process
  • Listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions and explains things well to others; teaches whenever possible. Writes clearly and informatively; able to read and interpret written information. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality of patient care; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Leads clinical team in developing, delivering, and monitoring patient treatment plans.
  • Participates in teaching activities on a formal and informal basis at the Lindner Center of HOPE and University of Cincinnati, and the community as a representative of LCOH.
  • Participates in the weekend coverage and on-call schedule rotation.
  • Supports business development.

Position Qualifications

  • Medical degree and completion of psychiatry residency training
  • Must be board certified or eligible psychiatrist with at least 3 years of post-residency clinical experience. If not board certified, must apply for board certification within 1 year of employment. Board certification must be maintained.
  • Must have a current license to practice medicine and it must be in good standing. If applicant doesnt have an Ohio license, they must apply for and receive one.
  • Must have and maintain age specific competencies based on the age of patients served, which include children, adolescents, adults and/or senior adult patients.
  • Must have basic typing skills to enter documentation into the computerized Medical Record system and to use Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail system.
  • Must have CPR certification or complete the course to receive it within the first 2 weeks of employment.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for the spectrum of populations admitted to LCOH.
  • Ability to enthusiastically follow and model the Lindner Center of HOPE mission, vision and values.

Physical Requirements

To effectively care for patients, employees must be able to see, talk, and hear coworkers, patients, and others. Also, consistent with duties performed in a normal office environment, there will be occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment and ability to use a computer.

All candidates extended conditional offer of employment will be subject to will conduct a WebCheck (BCI & FBI Fingerprinting). Fingerprints will be submitted to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The reports from these agencies will include criminal record information. Lindner Center of HOPE will follow the requirements for employment based on the State of Ohio Administrative Code 5122-30-31, and any other regulatory requirements regarding criminal background checks. Lindner Center of HOPE also reserves the right to obtain Consumer Reports and/or Investigative Consumer Reports as defined in the Federal Fair Credit Reporting ACT (FCRA).

Approximate salary range: $250,000-$300,000
