Position Overview

The Director of Accounting will oversee all financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls for Petros Development, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in a dynamic construction environment. This senior role reports directly to the President/Owner and plays a pivotal part in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making to fuel our growth in the competitive Land Development market. Key Responsibilities

• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
• Develop and monitor budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts tailored to construction project timelines, material costs, and sales cycles.
• Oversee accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cost accounting for homebuilding operations, including job costing for custom builds and land development.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with tax filings, audits, and industry-specific reporting (e.g., real estate and construction regulations in Ohio).
• Lead the accounting team, fostering collaboration with sales, construction, and executive leadership to optimize financial performance.
• Implement process improvements using ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, ECI MarkSystem, Sage, or similar) to streamline reporting and reduce cycle times.
• Analyze variances in construction costs, vendor contracts, and project profitability to support data-driven decisions.
• Collaborate on risk management, including insurance, bonding, and financing for new developments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a director or senior accounting role; construction, real estate, or homebuilding industry experience highly desirable.
• Proven expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and ERP systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling tools.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data in a project-based environment.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a collaborative mindset suited to a close-knit team.
• Knowledge of Ohio-specific tax and regulatory requirements a plus.
