Details
- Position is based at a large academic oncology hospital and research center
- RNs will float between the Emergency Department (ED) and the Immediate Care Center (ICC) as needed
- The ICC is a unique unit serving hematology, oncology, and sickle cell patients presenting with both urgent and non-urgent conditions who are generally more stable than a traditional ED population
- Common patient diagnoses include sickle cell crisis, fever, abdominal pain, uncontrolled pain, anemia, nausea, vomiting, and dehydration
- The ICC operates on an appointment-based model, with patients arriving from other hospital areas (e.g., radiation, infusion) or directly from home; most are discharged rather than admitted
- Patient ratio is 1:3–4
- General combined adult/pediatric Emergency Department setting
- Epic EMR experience is required
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required; experience must be current and active within the last 12 months
- Minimum 1 year of prior travel nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Preferred certification: PALS
- Required skills: IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care and management, emergency medication administration, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition
- Preferred skills: Triage, pediatric experience, sickle cell crisis management
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (e.g., supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted
Additional Information
- The ICC is a smaller, collaborative unit with strong team relationships and a supportive work environment, offering nurses the opportunity to develop diverse skills in a less acute oncology setting
- All candidates must complete the Ohio fingerprinting process as soon as a contract is signed; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location promptly, while those at greater distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet to be completed urgently
- RTO must be submitted at time of consideration and built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- Former employees of the facility are eligible after a 6-month separation period; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position due to the required 1 year of prior travel experience
