What a day looks like

At our Cleveland manufacturing site, you’ll be the go-to technical resource for the production floor. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and partnering closely with the department’s Plant Superintendent, you’ll move between the line, the maintenance shop, and vendor calls—always focused on improving safety, quality, reliability, and cost.

Your morning might begin with a quick huddle on an overnight alarm from a process control system. You’ll diagnose equipment and process issues, apply SPC to evaluate batch variability, and translate those insights into corrective actions. By mid-day, you could be walking the floor with maintenance and outside contractors to scope a repair or improvement. In the afternoon, you might be fine-tuning a cell layout to streamline workflow or reviewing a vendor quote to ensure specifications and quality standards are met. Along the way, you’ll shepherd department efficiency initiatives and keep them moving until benefits are realized.

Core responsibilities

• Troubleshoot processes and equipment, including process control systems; apply SPC to enhance batch quality.
• Support cost-reduction, process reliability, and quality-improvement programs.
• Coordinate and drive multiple efficiency initiatives from concept through measured results.
• Build capability while executing small-scale capital projects.
• Work with vendors to define specifications, procure equipment/materials/parts, and evaluate products against standards.
• Partner with in-house maintenance and external contractors to plan and complete repairs and improvements.
• Analyze space and material flow; design layouts of equipment and workspaces for maximum efficiency.

Qualifications

Education and experience

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology (ABET accredited).
• Demonstrated success managing projects and implementing cross-functional process improvements.
• Ability to juggle multiple initiatives effectively; results-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal presence and a collaborative, team-focused mindset.
• Clear, confident communicator—both written and verbal.
• Developing leadership capabilities and a bias for action.

Communication strengths

• Skilled at tailoring messages and ensuring smooth information flow.
• Comfortable presenting, fielding questions, and handling inquiries or complaints.
• Consistently courteous, tactful, and respectful.

Technical toolkit

• Advanced skills in Excel, Word, and related office applications.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and Autodesk Fusion 360.
• Familiarity with PLCs and ladder logic programming.
• Able to read blueprints and architectural drawings and read/create P&IDs.
• Systems thinker across Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Boilers, and related utilities.
• Rapid, organized response to plant system and utility disruptions.
• Strong follow-up and follow-through with contractors (in-person, phone, email).
• Manufacturing industry experience preferred.
• Data-driven: identify problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw sound conclusions.
• Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; available for off-shift hours as needed.

Physical demands

Regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, and talking or hearing. Frequently involves reaching with hands and arms and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close and distance vision and the ability to focus.
