Electrical Technician - Battery
Join a team dedicated to supporting critical infrastructure as a Critical Systems Technician II, Connected, based in New Albany, OH. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the reliability and performance of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery systems for essential facilities. This position offers hands-on experience with battery installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting, while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment. Responsibilities
- Assist with battery replacements and new installations for UPS systems.
- Support preventative and scheduled maintenance of battery systems with minimal disruption to customers.
- Contribute to warehouse operations as needed.
- Interact professionally with internal teams and external clients.
- Follow operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures (MOPs).
- Adhere strictly to facility work rules and safety protocols.
- Utilize hand tools and general maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site during all phases of work.
- Assist with tasks in other service divisions, such as Switch Gear, Operations, and HVAC, as required.
- Work from schematic diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Learn to disconnect and connect sealed batteries in cabinets and open racks.
- Develop skills in building flooded cell battery racks and spill containment systems.
- Learn to install flooded cell batteries onto rack systems in critical spaces.
- Enter pre-installation test readings and collect data for reporting using a laptop computer.
- Gain experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs on DC battery systems with increasing independence.
- Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Services Management.
- Travel approximately 30% or more as required.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to safely operate department equipment.
- Basic repair and maintenance skills under supervision.
- Willingness to learn AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
- Training or experience with digital multimeters, amp clamps, and battery testing tools (such as Alber Cellcorder) is a plus.
- Understanding of isolation devices, arc-flash PPE, and safe work practices.
- Ability to connect battery strings in series, parallel, and series-parallel configurations.
- Familiarity with torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of battery installations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- OSHA 10-hour certification and NFPA-70E Safety Training preferred.
