Precision CNC Boring Mill Technologist

Do you look at a print with complex GD&T and immediately picture your setup, tools, and code path? In this role, you’ll transform drawings into reality on CNC Horizontal Milling Centers and CNC Boring Mills—programming, setting up, and operating with exacting standards.

Your challenge

Imagine starting with a raw metal workpiece. You select fixtures and tooling, write or refine the program in Mazatrol or Celos (or drop into G- and M-code where needed), and load it from the server to the control over the network. You validate sequences, set offsets, verify coolant/lube, and press cycle start. While the spindle turns, you listen for vibration or the telltale note of a dull cutter, ready to adjust or swap tooling, then capture operational data and inspect parts to the print.

Key outcomes

• Accurate, efficient programming, setup, and operation of CNC HMCs and Boring Mills to machine metal parts while meeting quality and safety targets and maintaining thorough records.
• Expert use of Mazatrol or Celos and other conversational controls, plus G- and M-code, directly from drawings anchored in GD&T.
• Background with Mazatrol 640M, Mazatrol Smooth, Tosnuc, or Celos preferred.
• Precise mounting, installation, alignment, and securing of tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces using precision instruments and hand tools.
• Interpretation of blueprints/program specs to define operations, order of operations, NC sequences, and finished dimensions.
• Program transfer from server to CNC control via network links; insertion of control instructions to begin machining.
• Machine startup, continuous monitoring, lubrication/cooling checks, and operational data logging.
• Dimensional verification with micrometers, gauges, templates, and fixtures; machine/tooling adjustments to maintain tolerance.
• Defect detection (e.g., chipped edges, marred surfaces) and sorting of nonconforming pieces by flaw category.
• Stopping machines to remove parts or change tooling, setups, or part placement in line with required sequences.
• Offsets and program edits to support one or more machining functions on computer-controlled equipment.
• Replacement of dull cutting tools and compensation adjustments.
• Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned.
