Part-Time Residential Driver - The Compost Exchange

Location: Central Ohio

Hours: Part-time; both week day and weekend shifts available

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage, starting at $20/hour. Please note, this is a contractor-based position.

Vehicle: Company vehicle provided – no personal vehicle use required

About Us:

The Compost Exchange is Central Ohio’s largest residential and commercial food scrap collector. We work with households, schools, restaurants, and businesses to keep food waste out of landfills and turn it into nutrient-rich compost. Our mission is to make composting simple, reliable, and meaningful for our members and community.

What You’ll Do:

As a Part-Time Residential Driver , you’ll drive a Compost Exchange vehicle along established routes to pick up food scraps from our curbside members. This is a hands-on, independent role that involves physical movement, attention to detail, and a friendly attitude.

Responsibilities include:

• Safely operate a Compost Exchange service vehicle along residential routes
• Assist with basic vehicle cleaning or occasional tote washing as needed
• Collect food scrap buckets from households and leave clean, labeled replacements
• Log collection data and participation notes using our mobile app
• Maintain route accuracy and complete pickups efficiently
• Communicate any route changes, missed pickups, or service issues to the team

You Might Be a Great Fit If You:

• Have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
• Are comfortable driving a company van (CDL not required)
• Can repeatedly lift and carry up to 40 lbs
• Are self-motivated and dependable—this role requires working independently
• Have strong attention to detail and time management
• Care about sustainability, food systems, or simply doing work that matters

Our Hiring Process:

We’ll respond to candidates whose availability and background seem like a good fit. Instead of a traditional interview, we’ll invite you on a brief, paid ride-along so we can both get a feel for the work. If it seems like a good fit on both sides, we’ll move forward with on-boarding and training.
