Senior Accounting Manager

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide strategic financial insights to support our growing transit and transportation services. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, analytical professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys balancing financial oversight with strategic decision-making.

What You’ll Do:

Financial Management & Reporting:

• Lead preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
• Produce accurate and timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Monitor and analyze revenues (fares, contracts, subsidies, advertising) and expenses (fuel, labor, maintenance).
• Provide actionable route-level profitability insights to leadership.

Cost Control & Compliance:

• Track key cost drivers (fuel efficiency, overtime, maintenance parts).
• Conduct variance analysis and recommend cost-saving measures without compromising safety or service quality.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (DOT, IRS, transit funding).
• Oversee and support internal and external audits.

Payroll & Treasury Management:

• Supervise payroll and benefits for drivers, mechanics, and administrative staff.
• Ensure accuracy in overtime, union wage agreements, and benefit calculations.
• Manage cash flow and maintain strong banking relationships.
• Approve major payments and oversee accounts payable/receivable.

Strategic & Operational Support:

• Provide financial modeling to support route expansion, fleet replacement, and service innovations.
• Assist in bid pricing and contract evaluations.
• Supply financial insights for negotiations with unions, vendors, and municipalities.

Technology & Data Integration:

• Oversee integration of accounting systems with fare collection, GPS/telematics, and maintenance software.
• Ensure accurate financial data capture from ticketing and smart card systems.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
• 7+ years of progressive accounting/financial management experience (transportation/logistics industry a plus).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and audit practices.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a mostly remote role with limited travel.
