Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of current specialty experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience in patient care for adults and geriatrics - Preferred certification in chemotherapy - Previous charge experience Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a busy surgical oncology unit. The unit caters to both PCU and medical-surgical patients. Staffing ratios typically target 1:4, but can adjust to 1:5 based on circumstances. Weekends are variable and will depend on the needs of the unit. Scheduling is flexible, with no guaranteed blocked shifts provided to permanent staff. Self-scheduling requests are encouraged for consideration before the final schedule is posted. The first week of orientation will occur during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. The second week includes 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor. Patient diagnoses include various surgical oncology cases such as breast, thyroid, and melanoma. Additional oncology-related conditions like hepatobiliary and colorectal cancers are also addressed. Special procedures performed in this unit include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and IV antibiotics. Management of oncologic emergencies and specific medical drips is part of the role. There is a strong emphasis on infection prevention and minimizing patient falls. The candidate will work with interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care. The unit is equipped with advanced monitoring systems and safety protocols. Candidates must meet experience requirements from the last three years to qualify for this position. All candidates should be prepared for a comprehensive fingerprinting process for credentialing.
