The Monkey Bar & Grille History

Originally built in 1841, the predecessors to the current Monkey Bar & Grille have seen a tremendous amount of history and change take place in Foster, Ohio. Once a booming town along the Little Miami River/Railroad, the most famous of patrons, President Abraham Lincoln, came through on his inaugural tour in 1861! After several lives as a hotel, the historic building became a bar back in the 30s. In 1975, it was named the Train Stop Inn; however, quickly became coined “The Monkey Bar” after the famous smoking chimpanzee, Sam. Won in a poker game, Sam became a mainstay at the bar and was seen by many enjoying a beer, smoke or occasionally a game of pool. Jane Goodall, on a visit to the Cincinnati Zoo, was intrigued by Sam and insisted on stopping by to see him. After hours of observation, she reportedly called him one of the happiest and most content chimpanzees and gave him a coveted spot in her book. In honor of Sam and his part in the history of Foster, this establishment is now officially called The Monkey Bar & Grille.

MBG FOH Manager Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Front of the House Manager (FOH-M) who ensures that business operations run efficiently, safely and smoothly. The FOH-M must have extensive knowledge and experience with restaurant and bar operations and processes. They will be responsible for staff management, inventory, scheduling and maintaining high standards of excellent service and cleanliness. They must be able to multitask and pay strong attention to details. They should have excellent interpersonal and motivational skills, abide by our Social Promise and policies and lead staff with respect and support. They should communicate and attend to all of our customers and build a repertoire. They will also need to work closely with the Back of the House Manager (BOH-M), have at least 5 years of experience with food service and be or become ServSafe certified.

FOH-M Requirements:

· Possesses 10 years of restaurant and bar operations experience

· Work expectation of ~50-60 hours in a 5-6 day/week work schedule, especially closing shifts Thurs-Sun

· Must be ServSafe certified (or will need to become certified)

· Excellent understanding of customer service and bar skills

· Be able to lead and motivate people with authority and respect

· Excellent and professional interpersonal and communication skills with both FOH and BOH staff (bi-lingual is a plus)

· Ability to multitask and keep up with a fast-paced and high-volume environment

· Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations

· Ability to work with computers, KDS and POS systems

FOH-M Responsibilities:

· , manage and maintain all aspects of proper FOH operations, including staff training and supervision, excellent customer service, inventory management and financial performance of the business; as well as a working understanding and high collaboration with BOH leadership

· within a positive work culture and best-in-class hospitality

· Ensure by demonstrating a strong ability to expo and get all drinks and food out in a correct, consistent, quality and expedient manner; as well as establish a positive relationship with our customers

· Lead staff with and instruction to inspire and motivate

· Ensure staff are following for safety and consistency

· Responsible for ensuring staff are properly through a scheduling application and are kept within specified levels

· Responsible for the of the FOH - follow, enforce and maintain all food and bar health preparation, sanitation and safety regulations and procedures, as well as conduct regular quality audits

· Responsible for the of the FOH, including all outside areas/parking

· Responsible for – conduct inventory, create cost efficiencies/savings and prevent loss

· Maintain and improve existing with continued success

· new profitable business ideas, including new beverages, events, menus and specials

FOH-M Benefits:

· Reasonable business hours with earliest opening of 11:00 and latest closing of midnight on Friday and Saturday.

· 3% compensation benefit based on gross pay after 1st year of continuous employment

Pay: $62,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
