Student Associate, Hoxworth Transplantation Immunology Laboratory

Responsibilities Primary Duties Hoxworth Blood Center seeks a Student Associate to assist in the Transplantation Immunology Laboratory Division (TID), which is a state-of-the-art histocompatibility and immunogenetics testing laboratory. Student must be comfortable working in an environment where blood products are processed. The expected responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Assist with supplies management/ ordering and putting away stock Unpacking and ordering sample tests Aliquoting samples Filing requisitions Answering phone calls Complete assigned training, which may include safety, GMP, IT security, HIPAA. Must comply with all policies and procedures. Other administrative tasks.Minimum Requirements High School Diploma Or GEDEnrolled At a Post-secondary Institution Or a Secondary School.Enrolled At Least Part-time (one Or More Credit Hours If At a Post-secondary Institution), Except For Summer Term, Or Will Be a Registered Student During The Next Academic Term.Must Be At Least 18 Years Of Age.Have Completed Coursework In a Biology Or Chemistry Lab And Know How To Pipet.Have An Understanding Of Biohazards And How To Properly Use PPE.Ability To Follow a Standard Operating Procedure.Ability To Lift 50 Pounds, And To Work While Standing For An Extended Time.“Enrollment” Shall Include The period between two successive terms for which the student is enrolled. The one “off” term in each academic year in which the student is not enrolled. Student employee status may be retained for one additional term following either graduation or withdrawal from enrollment.AvailabilityStudent must commit to working up to 15-20 hours per week. Typical work hours are within the timeframe of Mon-Fri 7am- 6pm, with flexibility around student’s class schedule. Student may be asked to work outside of those hours on occasion. Compensation Data Hourly Rate - $15.00 / hour As a UC student employee, and employee of an Ohio public institution, if hired you will not contribute to the federal Social Security system, other than contributions to Medicare. Instead, UC employees have the option to contribute to a state retirement plan (OPERS, STRS) or an alternative retirement plan (ARP). If hired, you will be required to provide satisfactory proof of employment eligibility.
