Driving Coach

Responsibilities
- Provide engaging and effective behind-the-wheel instruction to students of all experience levels.
- Collect and log detailed training data to help improve our curriculum and teaching methods.
- Adhere to all Ohio Department of Public Safety regulations and Vision Drive Technology standards.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Document student progress and provide constructive feedback throughout the training process.
Requirements
- Valid Ohio Driving Instructor License (or ability to obtain one).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, professionalism, and a passion for teaching.
- Familiarity with Ohio traffic laws and driving best practices.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail.

Instructor Incentive Program
The Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) is offering a monetary incentive of $1,500 to any new driving instructor trainee that:
- Obtains an original Class D driving instructor license, pursuant to paragraph (E) of rule 4501-7-05 of the Ohio Administrative Code, between September 26, 2025 – September 30, 2026;
- Holds that license for at least 3 months; and
- Actively trains students during that 3-month period.
This incentive is intended to attract new instructors to the driver education field; only new instructors who meet the aforementioned criteria will be eligible. The instructor will need to fill out an incentive request form on the OTSO website once they have met all criteria. Once approved by OTSO, the instructor will receive the $1,500 incentive in approximately 30 days.
Eligibility Requirements — The Instructor must:
- Have a Class D instructor application approval date of September 26, 2025 through June 20, 2026 (obtainable from the driving enterprise);
- Have held the Class D driving instructor license for at least three months;
- Have actively trained students for three months after the license application approval date;
- Have obtained an OAKS ID on How to Register | OhioPays;
- Complete the webform on the OTSO website: Instructor Incentive Program.
This incentive will be available from January 1, 2026 – June 30, 2026, provided that sufficient funds are available. The Instructor Incentive Program may be terminated by OTSO at any time if funding becomes limited.
Ohio Driving Course Requirements
Prospective coaches should be familiar with the requirements for various driver training programs in Ohio. Please refer to the official Ohio Department of Public Safety resources:
