We have an immediate opening for an experienced Director of EHS ! The Director of EHS will provide leadership and expertise in areas of environmental, occupational health and safety (EHS), risk management, and workers compensation/loss control management to business units across MANE. Assist the business units to maintain compliance with all applicable EHS requirements. Monitor regulatory developments related to EHS and advise corporate stakeholders on potential business impacts. As a subject matter expert, support representing MANE with government agencies, industry associations, and/or other organizations for negotiating legislation, regulations, and/or guidelines that impact our business strategy. Aid business units in actions to eliminate worker injuries and associated costs, improve pollution prevention, and waste minimization. Offer strategic leadership to all business units and give corporate oversight in the areas of EHS.

DUTIES AND RESPONNSIBLITIES:

  • Lead and develop the EHS team that supports all of the southwestern Ohio MANE facilities. Support and facilitate education, training and action within the EHS team to effectively and adequately implement environmental policies, procedures and practices, as well as promote continual improvement consistent with environmental objectives.
  • Lead development of corporate guidelines and assist in implementation and monitoring of comprehensive safety processes and management practices to meet all applicable safety rules and company policy requirements company wide. Responsibilities to include but not limited to ergonomics, machine guarding, hazard communication, powered industrial vehicles, electrical safety, fire protection and emergency preparedness, and driver safety.
  • Develop and update training for all associates to maintain full compliance and eliminate safety and environmental violations and costs including, but not limited to, training on general safety and environmental awareness; specific programs (e.g. confined space, personal protective equipment (PPE), powered industrial vehicles, defensive driving, storm water, spill response); enforcement provisions including the potential for fines, forced shutdowns, and imprisonment; equipment operation; and general safety practices.
  • Identify and interpret regulatory standards that impact operational exposures and business activities and guide needed plans to ensure compliance.
  • Lead development of corporate guidelines and assist in implementation and then monitoring of all comprehensive environmental processes and management practices to meet all applicable environmental rules and company policy requirements. Responsibilities to include but not limited to wastewater discharge, solid waste disposal, hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal, air emissions, spill prevention control and countermeasures, storm water national pollutant discharge elimination system, and ozone depleting substances.
  • Apprise management of emerging issues, status with respect to those issues, and the resources necessary to comply.
  • Ensure the EHS team is actively involved with Operations in driving the safety of the work. Assist in identification of tools and methods that will be a key pillar in driving to a higher level of safety culture throughout the organization across all departments.
  • Develop, update and oversee the general health and safety policies and procedures company wide. In addition, facilitate the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices within the Corporation.
  • Provide input in identifying and tracking appropriate KPIs and assessing site EHS performance company wide.
  • Identify and propose initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposures that present risks to employee long-term health.
  • Provide support for safety focus groups throughout the facilities.
  • Audit facilities for EHS compliance as needed to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory requirements as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with business unit management and associates and provide relevant reports and analyses to ensure appropriate decision making on EHS issues. Conduct analyses on special project assignments.
  • Disseminate new developments in EHS technologies (e.g., automation, pollution controls, waste minimization).
  • Review capital expenditure requests for EHS compliance.
  • Liaise, as directed by management, with government agencies during the development of new Federal, State/Provincial, and Local requirements to affect a favorable outcome.
  • Perform EHS due diligence activities related to any acquisitions or divestures.
  • Communicate with Federal, State, and Local authorities regarding compliance issues and negotiate means of compliance. Serve as the primary on-site contact during visits or investigations by any regulatory bodies.
  • Performs other related and assigned duties by management.
  • Consistent with MANE's environmental commitments, every employee shall actively participate in relevant education/training based upon corporate and local environmental objectives. Management shall support and facilitate the actions within their teams to effectively and adequately implement environmental policies, procedures and practices, as well as promote continual improvement with environmental goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Life Science, Safety, or Risk Management from an accredited college or university. Certification as a Certified Safety Professional and OSHA 30 Hour is a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience within the food ingredient or chemical manufacturing industry.
