A growing chemical manufacturer with a diverse customer base and product line is seeking a Project Engineer to oversee multiple projects in a high-volume, process-oriented manufacturing environment. Daily, you will report to the Program Manager and will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Oversee aspects of multiple capital equipment projects, from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Attend daily meetings to update management on the status of projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, engineering, operations) to define project scope, feasibility, and resource allocation.
- Assist with the management of vendors and contractors to achieve project objectives.
- Contribute to the validation process for assigned projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
- Successfully transition completed projects to operations, providing comprehensive documentation and training.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with customers regarding project expectations, progress, and timelines.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels to gather information, facilitate decision-making, and ensure project success.
- Develop and optimize line layouts and modifications to enhance production efficiency and safety.
- Support the development of process flow diagrams in collaboration with the process engineering team.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining equipment standards to promote consistency and reliability.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction within capital projects.
- Work with team on feasibility analysis.
- Partner with the Program Manager to improve the project management system.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to support overall business objectives.
Candidates should be detail-oriented, have excellent problem-solving skills, be able to prioritize tasks, be improvement-minded, and be able to communicate at all levels. Individuals should enjoy spending 30-50% of their time on the manufacturing floor. This is a diverse project engineering position that reports directly to the Program Manager. REQUIREMENTS for the Project Engineer:
1. Bachelor's Degree in a technical field; Mechanical or Chemical Engineering highly preferred
2. Minimum of 2-3 years of similar project management experience
3. Experience working in process-oriented manufacturing (such as chemical, food, beverage), including a blending/mixing process
4. Experience overseeing capital equipment projects, including timelines and budgets
5. Blueprint reading experience
6. P&ID experience
7. Working knowledge of Gantt charts
8. Microsoft Office
Skills preferred but NOT required:
1. PMP certification
2. Consumer products manufacturing
3. Validation experience
4. Formal problem solving tools (5WHY or fishbone diagrams)
5. Power BI
