Department Org: Academic Success & Engagement - 102840 Employee Classification: U1 - Unclassified PSA FT Bargaining Unit: Professional Staff Association Primary Location: MC AC Shift: 1 Start Time: 8:30 AM End Time: 5:00 PM Posted Salary: Salary commensurable based on experience Job Description This intermediate level role serves as the primary advisor to all academic programs assigned to them. They are to provide quality student customer service and academic advising for all enrolled students. Services provided can include but not limited to: Advising, career planning, mock interviews, test prep options, application essays, letters of recommendation, GPA assessments, plans of study, student record reviews, curriculum & program planning, progression & graduation, course registration, reviewing of transcripts, advocacy toward resolution of academic problems/concerns, participation in orientation events and other student activities as needed. This level takes on more complex cases and works closely with college leaders on their needs with little supervision. Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Minimum of two plus (2+) years of academic advising is required.
- Experience in working on projects in higher education is required.
- Some experience in being a leader is required.
- Previous experience in working in a university environment is required.
- Good written and verbal communication required.
- Critical thinking for creation of logic relative to system programming
- Effective Decision-making and critical thinking skills required.
- Must be meticulous and have ability to keep organized and accurate records.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Demonstrated computer skills required including desktop publishing and the ability to create, analyze, and use report derived from databases.
- Understanding of curriculum process.
- Must possess the ability to advocate for the student while maintaining integrity of academic programs.
- High ethical standards and fairness required.
- Ability to work in high pressure situations and multitask priorities required.
- Works with minimal supervision on more difficult work assignments and confers with leader on unusual matters.
- Follows instructions and procedures and may set priorities and organize work within general guidelines.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Degree in Advising, Counseling, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs in higher education is preferred.
- Ability to understand, navigate, and run reports in BANNER or other student records systems required; previous experience with these is strongly preferred.
