Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred License: Must hold a valid nursing license Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required, ACLS preferred Must-Have: EPIC charting experience required Oncology experience preferred, but not required Description: This position involves working in a secure corrections unit environment. You will float to various oncology medical-surgical units as needed. The focus is on ensuring staff safety. The unit is a locked unit with controlled access. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for the progressive care unit and 1:4-5 for medical-surgical assignments. Some shifts may be assigned to the medical-surgical unit while others are for the progressive care unit. Staff safety is a priority in this role. You will be responsible for the management of patients with active oncology diagnoses, including both solid tumors and hematology cases. Patients may also include those with a history of cancer who are admitted for other reasons, such as surgical procedures, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sepsis, abnormal lab results, and pneumonia. You will provide care for non-oncology diagnoses admitted for similar reasons. Key responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, interpretation, and management of dysrhythmias. You will use unit-based telemetry monitoring. The role also includes IV insulin protocols, management of feeding tubes, and pre/post hemodialysis management. You will administer blood products and provide central line and peripheral line care. Administering medications involves managing cardiac drips without titration and using patient-controlled analgesia. You will assist with respiratory needs, including external CPAP/BIPAP and interpretation of arterial blood gases. Collaboration with various interdisciplinary support services will be necessary. This position prioritizes patient care and safety while working in a defined corrections environment.
