Senior Accountant - Cultivation Facility
Job Description
Job Description
Cannabis is one of the fastest-moving industries in the country, and the accounting function is where much of that complexity lands: inventory costing, 280E, multi-entity compliance, and reporting standards that are still taking shape. We're looking for a Staff Accountant who sees that as the interesting part, not the scary part.
This hands-on role oversees day-to-day accounting for our grow facility. You’ll work closely with the operations team and report to the Controller, taking ownership of key accounting areas while seeing how the numbers connect to the business. It’s a strong fit for an accountant with several years of experience who is ready to own processes, build from the ground up, and grow with the company.
What You'll Own
General accounting
- Run day-to-day general ledger activity for the grow facility — journal entries, reconciliations, and a clean, on-time month-end close.
- Own accounts receivable: invoicing, product master file maintenance, and collections.
- Drive cost accounting and manufacturing finance — inventory valuation, standard costing, and production cost tracking and reporting.
- Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations, and maintain accurate fixed asset schedules.
- Support year-end close, audit preparation, and compliance reporting.
- Jump in where needed. We value teamwork, flexibility, and ownership over rigid job descriptions.
Partnering with operations
- Work alongside the grow facility's operations team to understand cost drivers, improve margins, and build accounting processes that make reporting cleaner and faster.
- Collaborate with department managers to keep documentation audit-ready and aligned with tax strategy.
Partnering with the accounting team
- Be the Controller's key on-the-ground partner at the facility, supporting financial operations through regular check-ins, clear workflows, and strong communication.
- Work with the AP coordinator to ensure invoices are coded and entered correctly in QBO, with an eye on detail that makes future reporting stronger.
Requirements
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Direct experience with cost accounting and inventory accounting.
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting best practices.
- Strong reconciliation, financial statement preparation, and month-end/year-end close experience.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reporting).
- Sharp analytical and organizational skills, with a high bar for accuracy and a genuine sense of ownership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across a team.
Even Better If You Have
- Familiarity with cannabis-specific financial and regulatory requirements, including 280E.
- Budgeting and forecasting experience in a growing business.
Who Thrives Here
This is a dynamic, fast-evolving environment — processes are still being built, regulations shift, and priorities can change as the business grows. The person who'll love this role is someone who's energized by that: curious, adaptable, and comfortable building as they go. We take the work seriously and keep the culture fun — a "work hard, build smart, have fun doing it" mentality.
Benefits
- Competitive pay based on experience
- Health, dental, and vision benefits
- PTO, holidays, and overtime opportunities
- Tools provided after probationary period
- Opportunities for advancement within a growing cannabis operation
- Collaborative, hands-on work environment with a focus on innovation and efficiency
