Salary Information: $68,350 - $87,235 Application Deadline: October 28, 2024 The Medina Civil Service Commission is holding an open-competitive examination to create an eligible list for the position of Patrol Officer. Eligibility for Lateral Candidates: Current OPOTA certification and at least one year of employment with a law enforcement agency in good standing.
Lateral candidates do not need to take this examination and should apply through the city's job opportunities page.

Medina is located 30 minutes from downtown Akron or Cleveland and is close to I-71, I-77, and I-271. The city serves a population of 26,190. Job Requirements: Age: Minimum 21 years, but less than 35 at the time of appointment
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
Education: High school diploma or GED required; college preferred but not required
Driver's License: Must possess a valid state driver's license
Academy Certification: OPOTA certification is not required to apply but must be completed before the end of the probationary period
Hiring Process: Testing: Applicants must score 70% or higher on the entrance exam through the testing portal to be placed on the provisional eligible list.
Physical Fitness Test: Candidates who pass the written exam will participate in a physical fitness test on November 3-4, 2024, using OPOTA scoring standards. A retry will be allowed at a later date.
Oral Board Interview: Successful candidates will advance to an oral board interview for evaluation (dates to be determined).
Background checks, drug testing, psychological examination, polygraph, and other evaluations will follow successful completion of the testing process. Negative findings may disqualify a candidate. All testing results are subject to public record laws. Extra Credit Opportunities:
Extra credit points (maximum of 5) may be awarded as follows: Military Service: 5 points for honorable discharge (proof of service required).
Education: Up to 5 points (2.5 points for an associate degree in criminal justice or related field; an additional 2.5 points for a bachelor's degree).
OPOTA Certification: 5 points for Ohio Peace Officer Training completion.
Auxiliary Service: 3 points for one year of service with the Medina Police Department.
EMT Certification: 2 points for Level B or higher.
Written proof must be submitted by the application deadline. Extra credit points will be added to written scores of 70% or higher. Probation:
The probationary period is considered part of the testing process, during which the employee's performance is closely monitored. This period lasts for a minimum of one year from the first workday. The probation period may be extended at the request of the appointing authority. Accommodations:
