This role will be filled in a hybrid capacity, with in-office collaboration in our Columbus, OH office. This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.

The Retirement Solutions Technology team is looking for a motivated and engaged entry-level software developer to join our team supporting the reporting components of the DCdirect/RPLink record-keeping application. This application plays a key role in supporting our Retirement Solutions Line of Business.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their software development career who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful projects in a collaborative environment.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with team members to design, develop, and deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Learn and apply best practices, tools, and processes across various technical domains.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of IT solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and help resolve software issues with guidance from senior team members.

What We're Looking For

Familiarity or experience with some of the following is a plus:

  • Programming & Data Tools: SQL, Oracle, Snowflake, Python
  • Reporting Tools: Power BI, Power BI Report Builder
  • Cloud & DevOps: Cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes (Rancher), GitHub version control
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn
  • Mindset: A sense of ownership for the application, passion for technology, and a desire to stay current with industry trends

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you'll code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards and best practices.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

  • Adopts continuous improvement and learning.

  • Handles project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Experience: One or more years of technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency of at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, etc. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, such as competencies and experiences, may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the Director and HR Officer.

Working Conditions: Office environment may vary based on team and/or location. Associates may have on-call responsibility after normal working hours and/or on weekends.
