Days/Evenings (United States of America) Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs duties of a staff pharmacist as required
- Establishes and maintains clinical knowledge or practice that supports the needs of the ministry
- Instructs and precepts pharmacy students as assigned
- Develops and performs basic patient assessments as appropriate for scope of practice (i.e. assess for bruising or bleeding in patients on warfarin therapy)
- Acts as liaison between nursing services, pharmacy services, and medical staff in developing, implementing, and maintaining clinical pharmacy programs
- Successfully completes required rotational and longitudinal rotations - under guidance of residency preceptors, chooses elective rotations to complete
- Helps recruit at ASHP Midyear Conference for upcoming class of new residents and other recruiting opportunities as requested by residency program preceptors
- Active participation on committees relating to areas of clinical practice expertise and/or interest area.. Completes residency project as approved by residency program preceptors - project results presented at the discretion of residency program preceptors.
- May perform other duties within the scope of practice as assigned by supervisor.
- Obeys and adheres to all the Hospital and Facilities policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; the Department of Pharmacy Policies and Procedure manual for residents; and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Mercy Health Care Services. A copy of the Hospital's policy and procedure is also available in the Department of Pharmacy for the Resident's review.
