Operations Assistant
JOB SUMMARY
The Mobile Market Operations Assistant plays a key role in supporting the efficient operation of our mobile market program. Responsibilities include managing inventory, coordinating logistics, handling customer service, and engaging with the community to promote the program's success and longevity. This position combines both behind-the-scenes work and direct interaction with customers, offering logistical support while assisting with daily operations to improve the overall customer experience. We are seeking candidates who are passionate about food equity, possess excellent organizational abilities, and excel in fast-paced, customer-focused settings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage inventory, including receiving, stocking, and tracking products to minimize waste and ensure product freshness.
- Be the primary driver of the mobile market truck (Ford F59 22ft Stepvan, CDL preferred but not required) and oversee the maintenance and operation of the mobile market vehicle.
- Keep the Chief Operating Officer informed of all problems, challenges and conflicts related to the job
- Assist with preparing market sites, including setting up/staging product on the truck, tables, signage, and equipment. Help with packing up and transporting materials at the end of each market day.
- Greet and assist customers, providing information about products, vendors, and market policies.
- Cash Handling and Sales Support: Support sales transactions, operate point-of-sale systems, process payments, and provide change when necessary. Maintain accurate records of sales and transactions.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with market rules, health regulations, and safety protocols. Monitor for hazards and assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for all participants.
- Marketing and Promotion: Distribute promotional materials, engage with the community, and help increase market visibility through social media or local outreach.
- Problem Solving: Quickly address and resolve issues such as equipment malfunctions, vendor concerns, or customer complaints to maintain a positive market atmosphere.
- Participate in all staff and program meetings, events, and other mandatory training as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in food retail, farmers' markets, logistics, or community food programs preferred.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multitask
- Basic Math and Technology Skills -- A proficiency in inventory management, handling cash, operating POS systems, and using mobile communications and record keeping.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for community engagement.
- Customer Service Orientation - Friendly, helpful attitude and commitment to delivering an excellent experience for all market participants.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying weather conditions. Job requires frequent lifting, bending/kneeling, standing, climbing, pulling/pushing
- Valid driver's license; experience driving large vehicles/CDL preferred.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Mobile Market Operations Assistants will often work outdoors and is required to travel between different market locations, and work on Saturdays. The role can be physically demanding and fast-paced, ideal for individuals who enjoy active, varied work and community engagement.
COMPENSATION
- Part time; the position does not include benefits
- 20hrs/week, compensated at $15.00/hrs.
