Aerospace Dimensional Inspection Specialist
A day in the life
Start your 1st-shift morning between 5–6 a.m. and settle in for a focused 10-hour day ensuring mission-critical components meet exacting standards. You’ll review work orders and engineering drawings, plan inspections, and then move to hands-on verification using precision tools and a CMM. By midday, you’re validating first-run parts, documenting results, and advising production on adjustments. You’ll close the day by examining any nonconformances, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions so our warfighters receive parts that perform flawlessly.
About the role
As an inspection expert supporting defense programs, you will:
- Interpret and analyze blueprints and engineering specs to determine materials, surface finishes, tolerances, and dimensions.
- Compute derived measurements—angles, radii, and other unspecified dimensions—using formulas and shop math.
- Measure length, height, distance, and angles with precision instruments: CMMs, micrometers, V-blocks, sine bars, calipers, dial indicators, angle plates, snap gauges, gauge blocks, height gages, level protractors, optical comparators, bore gages, ultrasonic equipment, and profilometers.
- Inspect first-article parts, fabrications, and assemblies to release production with confidence.
- Prepare clear, complete inspection and test reports.
- Set up parts on surface plates, establishing reference points and centerlines for layout.
- Assess defective components, determine causes, and recommend modifications to eliminate recurrence.
