Lead MIG/TIG Fabrication Specialist

Step into a day at Tracom

You arrive on the shop floor where advanced fixtures, jigs, and high-tech welding stations are ready. You review prints and work orders, map out the sequence, gather tooling, and set up your station. By mid-morning, you are laying precise MIG and TIG beads on aluminum and carbon steel, switching to stainless or cast iron as the job requires. You move confidently between flat, vertical, and overhead positions, confirming fit-up with straightedges and templates before final weld out. After lunch, you cut, burn, and prep material, build up worn surfaces, repair equipment components, and dismantle assemblies with burning equipment to size and shape parts. Throughout the shift, you work safely, keep a clean workstation, and deliver work that meets exacting specifications.

What you will do

• Execute MIG and TIG welding across aluminum, stainless, carbon steel, cast iron, and other alloys
• Weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions with consistent quality
• Follow safety procedures and standard work at all times
• Validate tolerances using straightedges, templates, and measurement tools
• Interpret instructions, prints, and work orders to plan methods, tooling, and materials
• Cut, burn, fit, and fabricate components and assemblies
• Perform equipment repairs using appropriate welding processes
• Prep joints and surfaces, assemble and tack, and complete final welds
• Build up worn or defective areas to restore serviceability
• Use burning equipment to dismantle or size material to required dimensions
• Handle related tasks in support of production needs

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational welding certificate preferred
• Strong command of welding techniques and the ability to operate welding equipment with skill
• Hands-on experience with carbon steel and aluminum; familiarity with stainless and cast iron
• Wire-feed welding proficiency
• Mechanical aptitude, including exposure to hydraulics
• Fabrication and layout experience to support production builds
• Proficiency with production welding setups and blueprint reading

Hiring process

Before an offer, candidates complete a written and hands-on weld test. Applicants who demonstrate strong skills, a positive attitude, and clear aptitude may be offered a direct position.

Physical requirements and work environment

• Able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
• Mobility and dexterity to navigate operating machinery and powered industrial equipment
• Lift up to 50 lbs
• Operate power tools and vibrating equipment
• On-site role to support manufacturing operations
