About the Role:
Kalmbach Feeds is entering a significant phase of operational growth and supply chain expansion. As our warehouse footprint grows from 650,000 square feet today to more than 1 million square feet by the end of 2028, we are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Warehouse Operations to help lead that evolution.
This role will oversee all warehousing functions across the organization and will be responsible for driving operational performance, scalability, team development, and customer service excellence throughout our distribution network. The Director will play a critical leadership role in designing and implementing processes, systems, and infrastructure that support long-term growth while building high-performing teams and a strong operational culture.
This position will also lead the deployment of warehouse automation initiatives, including automated forklift implementation within new greenfield warehouse environments. The ideal candidate is energized by growth, thrives in fast-paced operations, and has experience leading large-scale warehouse operations through periods of transformation and expansion.
By the end of 2028, this leader will help support a warehousing operation exceeding 1 million square feet and more than 200 warehouse team members across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead all warehouse operations across the organization, ensuring alignment with company objectives related to safety, service, efficiency, quality, and growth
- Develop and execute scalable warehouse strategies that support continued organizational expansion and increasing operational complexity
- Lead warehouse expansion and operational scaling initiatives associated with the company’s long-term growth strategy
- Partner with executive leadership on the design, startup, and optimization of new warehouse facilities, including greenfield operations
- Lead the implementation and operational integration of warehouse automation technologies, including automated forklift deployments and related systems
- Build standardized operational processes and scalable systems that create consistency across warehouse locations
- Implement and utilize advanced analytics and operational reporting tools to monitor trends, improve efficiency, and support data-driven decision making
- Establish and manage key operational KPIs that measure performance, accountability, customer service, labor utilization, and operational success
- Champion employee engagement initiatives that strengthen culture, improve retention, and develop high-performing teams
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to warehouse management teams while building strong succession planning processes
- Develop labor planning, space utilization, and operational strategies that support a warehouse network expected to exceed 1 million square feet and 200+ team members by the end of 2028.
- Identify and implement system and process improvements that improve scalability, operational consistency, and customer experience
- Coordinate cross-functionally with transportation, manufacturing, customer service, procurement, and executive leadership teams to align operational priorities
- Proactively manage operational and quality issues impacting customer satisfaction by identifying root causes and implementing sustainable corrective actions
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing best practice methodologies that drive measurable operational and financial results
The Right Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Operations Management, Logistics, Business Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- 10 - 15 years of progressive leadership experience within warehousing, distribution, or supply chain operations, including leadership within large-scale or high-growth environments
- Minimum of 5 years of senior operational leadership experience managing large warehouse teams and multi-site operations
- Experience leading warehouse startup, expansion, or greenfield facility projects strongly preferred
- Proven experience implementing warehouse automation technologies, including automated material handling systems or autonomous forklift solutions
- Demonstrated success leading large operational teams through periods of growth, change, and process transformation
- Experience managing complex warehouse operations exceeding 500,000+ square feet and large hourly workforce populations
- Strong systems mindset with the ability to build scalable processes, labor strategies, and operational infrastructure for future growth
- Experience working with WMS platforms, warehouse technology, automation systems, and operational analytics tools
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and operational priorities simultaneously
- Documented ability to establish and drive a culture of continuous improvement that delivers year-over-year operational and financial improvements
- Experience managing operations that support 24/7 schedules and high-volume distribution environments
- Strong leadership presence with exceptional communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to influence across all levels of the organization while driving accountability and operational excellence
