Job Title: Nurse Practitioner – Developmental Disability Center
Schedule: Part-time, 16–24 hours per week | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | No weekends or holidaysPosition Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide advanced nursing care to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role focuses on assessing, monitoring, and managing chronic and acute health conditions while promoting independence and quality of life for patients. The NP will also provide clinical oversight and guidance to nursing and support staff in a developmental disability care environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Patient Care & Advanced Nursing Duties
- Develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Monitor patients’ health status, intervene in chronic illness management, and evaluate acute/complex medical conditions.
- Perform routine physical exams, minor procedures, and prescribe or administer medications and treatments as appropriate.
- Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up care for patients with chronic conditions, medical issues, or behavioral health needs.
- Order and review laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and imaging; make referrals as needed.
- Administer vaccines and inoculations to prevent communicable diseases.
- Medical Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, HIPAA-compliant medical records, documenting assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up parameters.
- Collaborate with the facility’s Medical Director or equivalent for monthly quality oversight.
- Clinical Direction & Team Leadership
- Provide guidance and support to RNs, LPNs, and other caregivers in the developmental disability care setting.
- Serve as a clinical resource for staff, patients, and families on health promotion, risk management, and care strategies.
- Professional & Committee Participation
- Participate in facility-specific meetings and professional committees.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives and educational opportunities related to developmental disability nursing care.
Required Qualifications
- Licensure & Certification:
- Valid Ohio RN license
- Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program
- Certification by the Ohio Board of Nursing for advanced practice
- Valid certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe (ORC 4723)
- Experience: Experience providing care in developmental disability, long-term care, or similar patient populations preferred.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Advanced clinical assessment and nursing judgment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, state/federal nursing regulations, and facility policies.
- Competency with medical/surgical equipment and electronic medical records.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
