Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

LaMotte Company is looking for a Staff Accountant who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and ambitious wanting to learn and grow professionally. This position is on-site located at our Newark, DE facility, and will report to the Controller. The ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of accounting principles, preferably with experience in public accounting, and a strong interest in manufacturing cost structures, inventory, and operations.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, cash, and account reconciliations
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely posting of financial transactions
• Support inventory accounting, including cost roll-ups, physical counts, standard cost updates, and variance analysis
• Track and reconcile fixed assets and support capital expenditure accounting
• Help prepare internal financial statements and management reports
• Assist with audits and tax reporting by preparing schedules and supporting documentation
• Identify and support process improvements related to financial operations and ERP utilization
• Prepare, record, and reconcile monthly inter-company balance with other divisions.
• Manage outstanding accounts receivable balances by routine review of aging reports and ensure funds are paid within a timely manner based on contract terms.
• Participate in other ad hoc project, month-end close process, and corporate accounting functions when required.
• Maintenance of the local corporate files, including AR, AP, Contracts and agreements, and tax filings.
• Assist with audit schedules and documentation, as requested.

Miscellaneous:

• Complies with company policies (personnel, safety, SOPs, etc.)
• Performs other duties as assigned. (Such duties may or may not be essential functions of the job.)
• Located in our Newark, DE facility with periodic travel to our Chestertown, MD facility.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications/Job Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required with 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience in cash management and financial statements preparation (public accounting experience preferred). The candidate must have attention to detail with advanced excel skills. The successful candidate will be a fast learner with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet required deadlines. In addition, the candidate will have good judgment, analytical skills and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently on assigned projects without the need for close supervision. Must be ethical, professional, and confidential. Progress toward CPA certification preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Works indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. Position requires walking, standing, sitting, and transporting up to 40 lbs. Requires good judgment, good problem-solving, communication, computer skills, and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
