General Labor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The General Labor person will properly carry out all duties as defined below under the Work Performed category. This person will be charged with correctly following all DOA guidelines related to this job. All work will be performed in a safe and sanitary manner. Duties include (but are not limited to): properly operate weight scales and heat sealers at all bagging locations, properly stack/ tag/ sample bags at all bagging locations, safely clean all designated plant areas using chemicals, effectively transport products using a walkie forklift, handle trash bags and safely operate the trash compactor. Also included are following all correct equipment sanitation practices. Maintaining a clean work area is an essential job component. This person is also required to perform minor maintenance work on associated equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Properly operate weight scales at all bagging locations

Properly operate the heat sealer at all bagging locations

Properly stack and tag bags and sacks at all bagging locations

Properly sample bags and sacks at all bagging locations

Follow proper sanitation procedures as described in the associated SOP

Maintain all associated work areas in a clean, neat manner during the entire shift

Safely handle chemicals and effectively clean all designated plant areas

Remove plant generated waste to the trash compactor and safely operate the compactor

Attend all company mandated training sessions – these include Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, etc.

Can perform minor maintenance on associated equipment

Can safely transport materials (products, etc) using a hand-held walkie forklift

Can correctly complete and submit work orders requiring a maintenance person

Properly follows all procedures and actions as described in the position DOA

Effectively performs all other duties as assigned or directed by plant management

Can write legibly and properly follow all verbal / written instructions

Comply with all policies and procedures of the Corporation

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be 18 years of age

Must have enough education to follow all written and oral instructions

Must be able to learn and master all necessary procedures to maintain efficient and effective operation of all procedures and associated equipment

Must have mechanical knowledge and ability for minor equipment repairs and maintenance

Must be self-disciplined, a team player, and be able to handle emergency situations common to the operation

Must be able to maintain and display personal cleanliness and follow GMPs' as described in company guidelines

Must be able to write clearly and in an organized fashion

The General Labor Person must be able to reach a 75% completion level of task proficiency within a 4-week training period; competency will be determined by Demonstration of Ability conducted by the department Supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Continuous physical activity through the work day such as climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, hearing, talking, repetitive motion and moving/lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Ability to distinguish colors

Proximity to moving mechanical parts, potential exposure to chemicals, live steam and steam heated water; wet, slippery floors from ingredients and water solutions; high noise areas present
