Position Summary:

The Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations and nursing staff of an assigned unit within a long-term care or skilled nursing facility. This role combines leadership and direct care, ensuring high-quality resident outcomes, regulatory compliance, and effective team coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Oversight:

  • Coordinate and oversee all nursing care provided on the unit.
  • Ensure care plans are accurate, updated, and followed.
  • Monitor resident conditions and ensure timely physician and family notification of changes.
  • Conduct clinical rounds to assess resident status, evaluate staff performance, and address care issues.
  • Participate in resident admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Administer medications and treatments as needed in compliance with policies and physician orders.

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on the unit.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and staff development.
  • Create and manage staffing schedules to ensure proper coverage.
  • Ensure staff adhere to infection control, safety, and clinical protocols.

Regulatory & Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, including documentation and resident rights.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Prepare for and assist during state surveys and audits.
  • Investigate incidents and implement follow-up actions or reporting as required.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Communicate effectively with families, residents, staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences and resident care plan meetings.
  • Support a positive, respectful environment for residents and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Current RN or LPN license in state of employment, in good standing
  • Minimum 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or skilled nursing
  • Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience required
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficient in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and care documentation
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
