Job Title:Instructional Aid Lead Coordinator

Department:Arts and Sciences | Chemistry and Biochemistry Administration

We are seeking an Instructional Aid Lead Coordinator to join the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University. This position will oversee the daily operations and logistics of the Organic Chemistry Prep Lab and Teaching Labs to ensure an organized and safe teaching environment consistent with approved laboratory procedures and guidelines. The Instructional Aid Lead Coordinator works with the Director of Undergraduate Organic Laboratories to ensure the preparation, packaging, labeling, and dispensing of stock solutions and laboratory samples, cleaning laboratory work areas, tracking and restocking inventory of chemicals and laboratory supplies and equipment, and the general set-up and daily organization of the laboratories. They are also responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of undergraduate prep lab staff to best support the requirements of the organic chemistry teaching laboratories. They manage the inventory of chemical supplies and equipment, including the initiation of requisitions, the installation, calibration, performance testing, and maintenance of equipment such as gas chromatographs, IR spectrometers, melting point apparatuses, rotary evaporators, and analytical balances, and the safe disposal of organic and inorganic waste in accordance with University, State, and Federal safety regulations. They collaborate with intra- and inter-departmental colleagues, including, but not limited to, teaching assistants, custodial staff, facilities and operation, and branch campuses to maintain a highly efficient and functional work environment, and positively represents the university’s mission and reputation in interactions with external contacts, such as vendors, sales representatives, and contractors. This position reports to the Director of the Undergraduate Organic Laboratories.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. 4 years of relevant experience required.

Desired: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

Additional Information

The pay range for this job profile is $17.50 - $22.86/hourly. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
