Normal Working Hours : Monday – Friday 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., 40 hour work week. Subject to emergency call-outs in storm/emergency situations during off-shifts, weekends and holidays.

Job Summary : Under the general supervision of the Powerline Supervisor, this entry level position is responsible for assisting Powerline Apprentice I & II, Powerline Journeyman and the Powerline Crew Leader in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground of transmission, distribution and substation facilities, either in energized or de-energized areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks: Drives line trucks with trailers including wire stringing and tensioning machines, tow motors, and smaller vehicles.

• Assists employees in higher classifications at all times, anticipates the requirements of line workers and supplies them with tools and equipment.
• Learns to climb poles; structures, ladders in order to pass the climbing certification test.
• Enrolls in the Northwest Lineman College Lineworker Certification Program (LCP) and successfully completes the first year’s requirements.
• Becomes certified in “CPR” and a First Aid Course prior to the end of the first year of employment.
• Identifies the hazards of working in a high voltage electrical environment.
• Shows initiative in learning the on-the-job practical electrical, physical and hydraulic theory.
• Replenishes line trucks with stock materials and keeps crew leader informed on maintenance issues with the line trucks.
• Frames, sets and tamps poles, installs anchor-gut assembly, sets transformers, and assists in service restoration following an outage.

Minimum Requirements for Employment : The selected candidate must possess all of the following requirements:

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid “Class A” Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) valid in the State of Ohio including the proper endorsement to accommodate requirements for department construction vehicles and trailers and to remain insurable under the city’s vehicle insurance policy and have an acceptable driving record as deemed by the City of Wadsworth.
• Possess the ability to lift up to sixty (60) pounds; heavier amounts with assistance.
• Possess the ability to work with arms extended overhead continuously for thirty (30) minutes on a regular basis or longer periods of time sporadically.
• Possess the ability to work in inclement weather conditions (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, heat) for extended periods of time.
• Possess the ability to respond to emergency situations at any time (e.g., off-shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays).
• Ability to report for duty to a reporting station for emergency call-outs within thirty (30) minutes. This requirement must be satisfied within the first one hundred and eighty (180) days of employment.
• Possess the ability to work in an energized environment.
• Possess the physical ability to climb poles or operate in an aerial device up to 85’ or higher if required

Preferred Qualifications for Employment :

• Schooling and/or training in the installation, maintenance and repair of transmission and/or distribution power lines.
• Certificate of completion from an accredited school for Power Line Workers.

Special Information :

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of criminal background checks, employment reference checks, physical examination and a pre-employment drug screen.
