Part-Time Zoning Inspector

Lafayette Township, Medina County, Ohio

Lafayette Township is accepting applications for a Part-Time Zoning Inspector to administer and enforce the Lafayette Township Zoning Resolution in accordance with Chapter 8 (Administration and Enforcement) and applicable Ohio law.

This position serves as the Township’s designated zoning enforcement official and acts under the direction of the Board of Trustees.

Position Summary

The Zoning Inspector is responsible for the administration, interpretation, and enforcement of the Lafayette Township Zoning Resolution. Duties include reviewing zoning applications, issuing zoning certificates when compliance is demonstrated, conducting inspections, investigating complaints, maintaining official records, and supporting the Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals as required.

This is a part-time position with no benefits . Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience , and may be structured as either hourly compensation or a stipend , depending on the candidate.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Consistent with Chapter 8 authority, the Zoning Inspector shall:

• Review zoning applications and issue or deny zoning certificates based on compliance with the Zoning Resolution
• Conduct site inspections to verify zoning compliance before, during, and after permitted activities
• Investigate alleged zoning violations and initiate enforcement actions in accordance with the Resolution
• Issue written notices of violation and pursue voluntary compliance where appropriate
• Maintain accurate and complete records of applications, certificates, inspections, violations, and enforcement actions
• Provide administrative and technical assistance to residents, property owners, contractors, and Township officials regarding zoning requirements
• Attend meetings of the Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals as necessary and provide reports or testimony related to zoning matters
• Coordinate with the Township Fiscal Officer, legal counsel, Medina County agencies, and other officials as needed
• Perform other zoning-related administrative duties as authorized by the Board of Trustees

Minimum Qualifications

• Working knowledge of zoning administration, land use regulation, or code enforcement
• Ability to interpret and apply zoning resolutions, zoning maps, site plans, and surveys
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to perform site inspections and maintain clear, defensible records
• Basic proficiency with office software and electronic records
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to travel within the Township

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a zoning inspector, zoning administrator, or code enforcement official
• Familiarity with Ohio township zoning law and procedures
• Relevant training or certification in zoning, planning, or code enforcement
• Experience working with boards, commissions, and the public in a regulatory environment

Compensation

• Part-time, no benefits
• Compensation based on qualifications and experience
• Compensation structure may be hourly or stipend-based , depending on the candidate
