Structural Welder
Role and Responsibilities
The Welder’s responsibilities include, but may not be limited to,
- Understand the safety features of the machines and tooling to ensure they are operating without compromise to safety systems.
- Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat resistant gloves, flame resistant (FR) clothing, protective masks, and safety toed footwear.
- Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
- Assesses equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods.
- Ability to perform MIG welding activities to steel components.
- Maintain welding fixtures and tooling in a suitable working order.
- Visually inspect weld quality and use other quality inspection equipment to confirm compliance to part specifications.
- Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to test and pass welder qualification test
- Thorough understanding of tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
- Welding experience in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge-based and working background in MIG welding of carbon and stainless-steel products
- Must be able to complete a manual welding test. Welds are judged on functionality and esthetics
- Must be able to perform accurate mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
- Ability to work with fractions and decimals.
- A work history of compliance to safety, quality, and productivity standards
- A work history that supports a good to excellent attendance record
- Strong mechanical abilities
- Fast learner and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Detail oriented approach to daily work activities
- Able to work well in a team-oriented work environment
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Preferred Skills
- At least 2 years’ welding experience and able to perform MIG welding.
