Summary:
Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work processing ambulance information, generating various reports, and issuing permits.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:
Keying and coding ambulance transports with the correct ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT codes required for payment daily by importing the run reports from ESO into our software system.
Verify insurance sources in order to bill.
Communicate with Cleveland County and surrounding Hospices for hospice patients for correct payer source.
Communicate with various hospitals and nursing facilities to ensure proper flow of paperwork and open lines of communication is maintained.
File all insurances daily including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance.
Must attend billing conferences to assure up to date knowledge of billing procedures and laws governing Medicare/Medicaid/Insurance laws.
You must ensure that required forms are attached to records prior to billing claims

Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED and 2 years of experience working with medical terminology, emergency medical services coding, or billing services. Certified ambulance coder certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Responsible for knowing the compliance for bill to Medicare/Insurance. Medicaid
Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and of forms and machines used in the preparation of office records and bills.
Considerable knowledge of North Carolina and County laws and policies concerning billing and collecting.
Skilled in the use of data entry equipment, including computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs.
Ability to prepare records and reports concerning the collection of delinquent and current bills.
Ability to compute figures rapidly and accurately.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public in explaining collection laws and policies.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
Ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, or directions from superiors.
Ability to read a variety of reports, correspondence, etc.
Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English and government accounting terminology.
Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, copiers, printers, facsimile machines, calculators, etc.
Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force consistently to move objects.
Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary work.
Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.

None
Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval. This is an in-person, on-site role based in our office. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this position.
