About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Business Accounting Manager to manage day-to-day accounting and financial operations while supporting overall business performance. This role is focused on execution — ideal for someone who enjoys working directly in the details, managing processes, and keeping financial and operational activities running smoothly.
This is not a high-level strategic role — we are looking for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and owning the work.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare annual operating and capital budgets.
- Produce accurate and timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
- Analyze revenues and expenses and provide clear, practical insights.
- Perform variance analysis and explain variances exceeding 5%.
- Support audits and maintain GAAP compliance.
Payroll, Cost Control & Cash Management:
- Process and oversee payroll, including union wages and overtime.
- Monitor cost drivers such as overtime, fuel, labor, and maintenance.
- Audit payroll accuracy and HSA deductions.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow.
- Maintain banking activity and track line of credit usage.
Business & Contract Support:
- Track and maintain contract agreements, renewals, and amendments.
- Assist with contract change orders and documentation.
- Support execution of company strategy through financial tracking.
- Track and report on KPIs (overtime, utilization, margins).
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with DOT, IRS, and transit funding requirements.
- Maintain insurance documentation and ensure no lapses.
- Keep all records organized and current in Microsoft Teams (SOPs, contracts, policies).
Operations & Asset Tracking:
- Maintain vehicle and asset records, including service status.
- Monitor fuel usage and identify discrepancies.
- Track downtime and report revenue impact.
RFP & Administrative Support:
- Assist with RFP reviews and basic financial analysis.
- Support pricing and proposal preparation.
- Assist with vendor, union, and partner coordination.
Systems & Process Support:
- Support accounting and operational system integration.
- Improve tracking and reporting using Excel and Microsoft tools.
- Help reduce manual processes and maintain organized workflows.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
- 3–5 years of hands-on accounting experience (required).
- Experience with payroll, AP/AR, and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office; QuickBooks or ERP experience preferred.
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple tasks.
