Electrical Assembler
Overview
This Electrical Assembler position is a hands-on, physically demanding role involving the removal, repair, and installation of complex wire systems, harnesses, and components in locomotives. If you have strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and enjoy working with your hands, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Responsibilities
- Remove old wires, cables, and wire harnesses from locomotives.
- Inspect and assess wires for repair or replacement.
- Disconnect and document wire routing using visual routers and schematics.
- Rebuild wire harnesses based on tear apart documentation.
- Install new or refurbished components using single wires, cables, and harnesses.
- Follow detailed computer-based instructions and schematics.
- Route and connect wires to components such as generators, engines, brake racks, HVAC units, and more.
- Assist in mechanical fit-up and placement of internal components.
- Participate in final assembly across six rebuild stages.
- Adhere to safety protocols and company policies at all times.
Qualifications
- Basic computer skills required.
- Ability to read tape measures to sixteenths.
- Must follow instructions precisely—no improvisation allowed.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work in tight spaces and various physical positions (e.g., laying down, overhead work).
- Comfortable working at heights (10–18 feet).
- Must complete a 4-hour intensive training course; additional 2–3 hours if assigned to wire harness building.
