About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Day and Night Rotation Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of PCU experience preferred License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: High acuity PCU patient experience. Strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls. Description: This position involves providing care in a medical oncology progressive care unit. The unit is designed for high acuity patients. The staff will work with pediatric patients, although these cases are rare. Experience in oncology is preferred but not required. Responsibilities include interpretation of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response teams. Nurses will manage feeding tubes, accessing ports, and blood product administration. Central and peripheral line care are essential aspects of the job. Additional skills may include management of cardiac drips and administration of PCA. Knowledge and skills related to chest tubes and non-invasive airway management are important. Patients may require monitoring of chemotherapy and wound care. The role necessitates effective communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary support services. Staffing ratios typically range from 1:3 to 1:5 based on patient needs. Flexibility to float to other units with equivalent or lower acuity is required. This role offers opportunities for professional growth and development.
