As an OTR Driver, you will be responsible for hauling freight over long distances, typically spanning multiple states. With 12 months of verifiable experience, you are expected to operate independently with minimal supervision, maintaining high safety standards and on-time delivery metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Long-Haul Navigation: Transport goods across the lower 48 states (and potentially Canada) using GPS and atlas-based route planning to avoid restricted roads.
- Safety & Compliance: Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections. Ensure 100% compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations, specifically Hours of Service (HOS) .
- Logging: Accurately maintain Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) and documentation for all shipments, fuel receipts, and mileage.
- Cargo Management: Secure loads using straps, chains, or load bars. While most OTR at this level is "no-touch" freight, you may be required to assist in "drop-and-hook" operations.
- Communication: Maintain regular contact with dispatchers regarding ETAs, breakdowns, or weather delays.
Requirements & Qualifications
- License: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A).
- Experience: Minimum of 12 months verifiable tractor-trailer experience within the last 3 years.
- Safety Record: * No more than 2–3 moving violations in the last 3 years.
- No "preventable" DOT-recordable accidents in the last 12–24 months.
- Clean Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse record.
- Physical: Valid DOT Medical Card and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen (including hair follicle tests at some major carriers).
- Age: Minimum 21 years old (for interstate travel).
